King's College Cambridge 2008 #11 Hodie James Whitbourn
spiritdei.blogspot.com King's College Cambridge 2008 Hodie by James Whitbourn. Hodie Latin for Today or Now was written in 1999 by James Whitbourn who was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford, where he was a choral scholar. Now established as a composer for concert hall and screen, he began his career as a programme maker at the BBC, producing many award-winning programmes. His close association with the BBC Philharmonic resulted in three large-scale commissions for voices and orchestra. His Son of God Mass has had many performances worldwide, especially in the USA and Europe. Television credits include music for the BBCs coverage of the Queen Mothers funeral, and major BBC series ´Son of God´. In 2005, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, under Leonard Slatkin, premiered his oratorio Annelies, based on the Diary of Anne Frank, at London's Cadogan Hall to wide critical acclaim. He has written a number of works for the British tenor Robert Tear, with whom he has also collaborated as librettist, including a festal setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis for King's College Cambridge and a cantata for the St Endellion Festival. Other vocal works include a set of songs commissioned by the BBC for the mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins. From 2006-2008 his compositions have been performed annually in concerts devoted to his music at Westminster Choir College, Rider University, New Jersey.

Empires of gold and knowledge part 1 Into Africa
Empires of gold and knowledge part 1 Into Africa
Program from The Story of Africa part 9. The Kingdoms of Mali and Songhay www.bbc.co.uk At the height of its power, Mali had at least 400 cities, and the interior of the Niger Delta was very densely populated. One of the cities, Timbuktu rose from obscurity to great commercial and cultural importance. It became a centre of learning, one of the foremost centres of Islamic scholarship in the world. The mosque of the University of Sankore was highly distinguished for the teaching of Koranic theology and law, besides other subjects such as astronomy and mathematics. In the 14th century, Timbuktu had an estimated population of 115000 people. Typically, 25000 were at university and 20000 were at school. London, by contrast, had a total 14th century population of 20000 people. Similarly, Old Djenne, one of the early cities that date back to 250 BC (the city was part of the old Ghana Empire and passed on to the Mali Empire when Ghana fell), had a population of 20000 people. London, again, would wait another 700 years to reach this figure. Also, old astronomical manuscripts from the medieval desert collections in Mali and Mauritania show that the Africans knew about the lunar cycle and its shadows long before any European thought about it. In 2002, Michael Palin, a BBC programme maker, returned from Timbuktu to report that the Great Mosque of Timbuktu "has a collection of scientific texts that clearly show the planets circling the sun. They date back hundreds of years ... It is ...

Richard Dawkins: The Blind Watch Maker (BBC)
Richard Dawkins: The Blind Watch Maker (BBC)
Please Subscribe To The EvolutionDocumentary YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com Broadcast (1987) Another Richard Dawkins presentation based on one of his books (which won the Royal Society of Literature Award). In the programme, he refutes the claims of creationists that Darwinism cannot be credible because blind chance alone would not produce the complexity of organisms as they exist. "The Blind Watchmaker" creationist argument was coined by Rev. William Paley (1743-1805) 50 years before Darwin's theory of evolution. Dawkins demonstrates how the eye could have evolved in stages, each simple and a result of random variation, but connected by a natural selection of those organisms which become more successful. In the early stages even with an incomplete eye, the benefit of even partial vision discriminating only between light and dark would be more useful than no vision. The structure of the surface of the "new" (in 1987) optical storage disc is related to the structure of the eye of the moth. A computer program produces generations of biomorphs using incremental random variation. See www.rennard.org for an applet Engineers apply the principles of evolutionary variation, for example in a windmill that uses stationary vanes of suitable design to concentration even gentle wind onto a smaller central rotor that turns more powerfully as a result.

How to use Windows Movie Maker
How to use Windows Movie Maker
This is just a brief little stint for all of those folks who want to make AMVs but have no idea how to use Windows Movie Maker. It's a short walkthrough of how I go through the process of putting together videos. Please note that this is just a video showing the mechanics of the program, not making a video from start to finish. To that end, I'd like to remind watchers to get brave. Experiment with it, find new and interesting combinations of song and footage or whatever you're trying to do. Enjoy it. Again, I'd like to mention that this is NOT for people who know how to use the program. This is for people who want to make a music video and don't know how to use Windows Movie Maker.
